How the year looks

Design, build, fly test, compete

The rough shape of a season, based on how last year ran. Exact dates for 2026 to 2027 go on the calendar once AIAA publishes the rules.

Late August

Kickoff and info meeting

Find us at the engineering involvement fairs and the first Sunday meeting of the year. Workshops start straight away: everyone builds a foam prototype in the first weeks.

September to October

Design

Rules come out, mission analysis decides what matters, and the proposal goes to AIAA in late October. Prototype 1 flies while the design is still moving.

November to December

Preliminary and critical design reviews

PDR, then CDR with the faculty advisor before winter break. The fuselage prototype and prototypes 2 and 3 come out of these.

January to February

Build

The competition airframe goes together in the shop, and the design report is due in February.

February to April

Fly test

Test flights at the field, then fixes, then more test flights. Bring a jacket, Colorado mornings are cold.

April

Competition

The team travels to the AIAA fly-off. The 2027 competition is in Tucson, Arizona, 15 to 18 April.
